MPRLP
Victory of Human Courage

Dal Singh and Gangabai are an ordinary couple in Panjaria Dhava village in Dhanora cluster of Barwani district. The unusual in them is the courage to swim against current despite their physical disability. Both of them have lost their legs. They have two children and it was hard to feed them. Physical disability dampened their spirit and their confidence was terribly shaken. Survival of their small family depended only on half an acre piece of land. Their village itself is a geograMPRLPphically inhospitable. It is surrounded by hillocks and remains cut off. One has to cross tall hillocks, stony passages and rivulets to reach the village. During rainy season, the villagers have to face trouble. When able bodied face problems, the plight of Dal Singh and his wife could be well imagined. A shattered hut has been their world.

Dal Singh informed that his father owned an acre land, which was enough to feed a family. Financial crisis forced his father to mortgage half an acre land and for last three four years family had to survive on half acre. Running a family was not so easy. Disability made them poorer. Meanwhile, the MPRLP interventions started in the district. The PFT members met Dal Singh and heard his agony. The PFT members advised him to talk about his acute poverty in the Gram Sabha meeting. He made a proposal to start a grocery shop but he had apprehension that it would never be a reality. He was given Rs. 5000. Dal Singh opened a shop and stocked the essential commodities. As decided, Dal Singh deposited Rs. 1000 in the Gram Kosh. The grocery shop is running well. he earns at least Rs. 50 per day. He pays full attention to his grocery shop and is planning to further expand it. Dal Singh and Gangabai have no regret if nothing comes from their half an acre land. The human courage has at last won. The story of Dal Singh clearly suggests that "people need not be limited by physical handicaps as long as they are not disabled in spirit."
