The story of 23-year-old disabled Mukesh is
the story of indomitable courage. It inspires all those like Mukesh that
"all is not lost". Mukesh had lost his left leg in an accident. Life had
become tough for him as a differently able person. He was deeply worried
about his old parents, who were dependent on him. How will he survive with
disability? Who will employ him? and what he should do? These questions left
him completely bewildered.
A farm laborer Mukesh belongs to Bamansuta
village in Badnavar cluster in Dhar district. One fine morning misfortune
struck him permanently and every thing lost value for him. He was operating
a thrasher machine. All of a sudden, his left leg touched the moving machine
and crushed. His master spent liberally on his treatment but wounds could
not heal up. Finally doctors advised amputation of leg up to knee level.
There was no option but to accept doctors' advise. A young Mukesh was
handicapped now. He had lost all hopes but he had to live for his parents.
He went to Jaipur and got artificial leg. He could stand up and walk with
the support of artificial leg. Dejected utterly, he started spending days as
disabled young man. His dreams had shattered. Earning livelihoods was a
formidable challenge. Mukesh could not see his old parents working as
labourer. When PFT talked to Mukesh and encouraged him to do some business,
he could not believe. Mukesh had got not only a moral support but also an
offer of financial help. He showed courage and put up a simple proposal in
the Gram Sabha. His proposal was approved and he got Rs. 3000 as loan for
vending seasonal fruits. He put up his banana shop at Badnavar Chaupati. It
is running well. Every day Mukesh earns Rs. 60 to 80 and is repaying Rs. 250
per month as loan installment. He has repaid two installments. Mukesh now
has future plans. Parents highly appreciate his courage and zeal. His
business might fluctuate depending upon seasons and consumers' behaviour but
his confidence will never. Thanks to MPRLP's timely support to persons like
Mukesh who have been groomed never to yield. |
